Understanding what's happening beneath the surface

You may already have a sense of what’s going on—patterns you’ve noticed, diagnoses that resonate, or ways of thinking and responding that you’ve spent time trying to understand. And at the same time, you might still feel stuck in reactions, emotions, or cycles that don’t shift as much as you’d expect.

Individual therapy offers a space to go deeper than surface-level insight. Together, we look at what’s happening underneath those patterns: how past experiences, emotional responses, and internal dynamics continue to shape your day-to-day life, even when you “know better.” This isn’t about starting from scratch, but about building on what you already understand in a way that actually leads to change.

Over time, this work can help you feel less caught in the same patterns and more able to respond with clarity, intention, and flexibility. Things that once felt automatic can begin to soften, and the gap between understanding and real-life change starts to close.

Our online therapy sessions are conveniently available for all California and Michigan residents.

Therapy that's built for you

Individual therapy is not one-size-fits-all. My approach is collaborative, flexible, and grounded in understanding the deeper patterns shaping your experiences—whether that’s anxiety, trauma, relationships, identity, or something that’s harder to put into words.

Many of the people I work with come in with insight already. They’ve read, reflected, maybe even tried other forms of therapy, but still feel stuck in certain reactions, emotions, or cycles. Our work focuses on bridging that gap between understanding and change by exploring what’s happening beneath the surface and working in a way that feels aligned with how you actually think, feel, and process.

I integrate approaches like Internal Family Systems and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, along with somatic and relational work, to support meaningful, lasting shifts. Therapy moves at a pace that feels manageable, with space to adjust based on your needs—whether that means focusing on practical strategies, deeper processing, or a combination of both.

Individual Therapy for Anxiety Treatment

Anxiety can show up in different ways: constant overthinking, feeling on edge, difficulty relaxing, or a sense that your mind won’t slow down even when you want it to. You may understand your anxiety logically but still feel stuck in the same patterns, reactions, or physical responses. Therapy focuses on understanding what’s driving your anxiety at a deeper level so it no longer feels as overwhelming or automatic.

Relationship Therapy

Relationship patterns often develop over time and can be difficult to shift, even when you’re aware of them. You might notice yourself pulling away, becoming reactive, overgiving, or struggling to communicate in the ways you want to. Whether you’re single, dating, or partnered, therapy can help you understand these patterns and build more intentional, connected ways of relating.

LGBTQIA+ Therapy

You may be looking for a space where your identity is understood without needing to be explained—or where it can take up as much or as little space as feels right to you. Therapy offers support for navigating identity, relationships, trauma, and life experiences without reducing you to a label or making assumptions about your path.

Neurodivergent Therapy

If you’ve spent years trying to function in ways that don’t feel natural or sustainable, therapy can offer a different approach. This work focuses on understanding how your brain and nervous system operate so you can move through life with less exhaustion, less masking, and more alignment with what actually works for you.

Therapy for Depression Treatment

Depression can feel like heaviness, disconnection, low energy, or a loss of motivation and interest in things that once mattered. Even when you want things to change, it can be hard to shift on your own. Therapy provides space to understand what’s underneath these experiences and begin moving toward more clarity, engagement, and connection.

Trauma Informed Therapy

Some experiences don’t stay in the past. They continue to show up in how you feel, react, and relate to others. Trauma-informed therapy focuses on helping your nervous system process these experiences in a way that reduces their intensity and impact, so you can feel more grounded and present in your life.

How to Start Individual Therapy

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve been carrying things on your own for a long time or aren’t sure exactly where to begin. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear plan; just a sense that you’d like something to feel different.

The first step is a free 20-minute consultation. We’ll talk through what’s been going on, what you’re hoping for, and whether working together feels like the right fit for you.

FAQs About Individual Therapy with Authentic Healing Therapy

  • Do  I need to have a clear goal or know exactly what I want to work on?

    • Not at all.  Some people come in with specific goals, while others just know that something doesn't feel right. Therapy can begin wherever you are. Whether that's a clear focus or a more general sense that you want things to feel different.

  • What if I've already tried therapy before and still feel stuck?

    • Many people I work with have had previous therapy experience and gained insight, but still find themselves repeating the same patterns or reactions. Our work focuses on going deeper: bridging the gap between understanding something intellectually and actually experiencing change in your day-to-day life.

  • What modalities or approaches do you use?

    • I integrate approaches like IFS (Internal Family Systems) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), along with somatic and relational work. Rather than applying a single rigid approach, therapy is tailored to you: your experiences, your nervous system, and what feels most supportive for the work you want to do.

  • What can I expect in the first session?

    • The first session is a chance to get to know each other and begin to understand what's bringing you into therapy. We'll talk through what's been going on, any patterns or concerns you've noticed, and what you're hoping for moving forward. There's no pressure to share everything at one. We move at the pace that feels comfortable for you.

  • Does online therapy actually work?

    • Yes. Online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as in-person work, and many people find it more comfortable and accessible. Being in your own space can make it easier to open up, reduce stress around commuting or unfamiliar environments, and allow therapy to fit more naturally into your life.

  • How do I know if this is the right fit for me?

    • You don't have to decide that on your own. The free 20-minute consultation is a chance to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and see whether it feels like a good fit for you.
